Cut & Paste on the Iphone

August 22, 2008

Some independent developers have come out with a workaround for implementing cut & paste on the iPhone. This isn’t some sort of Apple led – development, so it is a little sketchy and doesn’t work across all apps on the phone. It’s called OpenClip, and is an open source framework that can be implemented by different app makers to allow cut and paste.

Getting Push Email for Free on Your iPhone

July 31, 2008

What is Push email? Push email is when your phone automatically “knows” when it gets an email. Instead of you having to open up Mail and check every few minutes, your iPhone will update when a new email reaches your account.

How does that happen? Think of it this way…

What usually happens:

You open up Mail, Mail sends a message to your mail server (Yahoo, Gmail, or Work email or whatever you have set up), and ask if there are any new messages. If so, Mail downloads those messages, which then show up. The downside? You have to check yourself, or change to settings to check every few minutes. Not instantaneous.

Push:

When your mail server receives an email, it automatically sends a message to your iPhone telling you that there is a message. Your iPhone doesn’t have to “ask” every few minutes, the update is instantaneous.

Now that you know what push is (most of you might already know), read on for how you can get a free push account set up on your iPhone.
